GOING BEYOND "SMART" CITIES
The VTC STEM Challenge Cup aims to inspire students' creativity and innovation through the integration and application of STEM knowledge and skills, and creating innovative solutions, thereby encouraging them to take on challenges in lives. Together, we promote STEM in the community and transform Hong Kong to be a smart and sustainable city.

Under this year’s theme – Going Beyond "SMART" Cities, the VTC STEM Challenge Cup invites you to create the new normal by developing innovative solutions through the Competition.
THEMES AND ELIGIBILITY
OUR CHALLENGE
DVE STUDENT – YOUTH COLLEGE
SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENT
  • The competition is open to local secondary school students from Secondary 2 to 5 and full-time students from DVE programmes in VTC.
  • Each project team shall consist of 2 to 4 student members (for secondary student groups) or 3 to 6 student members (for DVE student groups) from the same school or campus. Each project team shall invite a teacher (for the secondary student groups) or student leader (for the VTC student groups) from the participating school or campus as its contact point with the Competition Secretariats for all the matters relating to the Competition.
  • Each secondary school could field 2 teams of students at most. Normally, each team consists of 2 to 4 student members.
  • The proposal must be an original work of the project team. By submitting an application to the Competition, the participants agree that the copyright in the entries shall vest upon the VTC STEM Education Centre absolutely.
  • In case of disputes, the Organiser reserves the rights of final decision, including suspending, terminating or changing details of the Competition and its terms and conditions without prior notice.

1st Round
Craft your proposal in PowerPoint presentation which should not excced 15 pages
VIDEO

FOR DVE STUDENTS ONLY

An introduction video not exceeding 4 minutes should include but not limited to the following items:

  1. Problem Scenario
  2. Product / Solution Design Approach
  3. Code Explanation and Illustration*
  4. Prototype Presentation*

* The DVE students shall cover items 1 to 4

Enhance Your Presentation &
Prototypes [if any]

The proposal should address the following points:

1 PROBLEM STATEMENT
Identify a challenge from the Challenge Sectors you are tackling for community, campus or students and describe the shortcomings of current solutions

2 IDEA
Propose an innovative solution with system architecture. Use of smart technology with a system architecture or programming with Micro:bit or Python is required in your proposal.

3 BENEFITS
Specify the impact or the benefits from your proposed solution

4 IMPLEMENTATION
Outline your implementation plan

Project team shall submit the above document(s) via our online system to the Competition Secretariat on or before 5pm, 2 May 2023, Tuesday [SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS] or 10 May 2023, Wednesday [DVE STUDENTS]. Your team will receive an email acknowledging that your proposal has been successfully submitted.
